Sooner or later, avid golfers end up in South Carolina. In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Parkway is a master planned private club called The Cliffs. A single membership provides access to seven communities and facilities including seven championship golf courses. They include two by Fazio, two by Nicklaus and a Gary Player masterpiece. The Cliffs has an abundance of truly fantastic golf. After all, the vast majority golf facilities in the United States have one 18 hole course. A small fraction have two with a small contingent having five or more. Three of the seven golf course communities of The Cliffs are located on Lake Keowee – Keowee Springs, Keowee Vineyard and Keowee Falls South – collectively known as the Cliffs Lake Keowee.
Even so, only one of the three Cliffs Lake Keowee courses (The Vineyards) is principally located on the lake as the two others wind through the dense Carolina forest.
In another area of the course is Porch restaurant with a screened porch overlooking the 6.5 acre practice range and teaching area.
The Cliffs at Keowee is focused on the impressive lake and the lakefront home-sites. Nearby, Keowee Springs beach club sports two pools, a sandy beach and a 27-unit day dock. Not surprisingly, boats are a preferred method of transportation between the array of facilities throughout the Lake.
While the lake is 23 miles long with a maximum width of 3 miles, the average width is about a mile and the average depth is only 54 feet. Hence, the lake is unusually calm and usable. Real estate professionals conducted tours using a boat. In reality, it’s the only way to see a lakefront lot and The Cliffs at Keowee has hundreds of them.
Cliffs Lake Keowee – The Vineyards Course
As noted, only one course is actually on Lake Keowee. Hence, you’d be pleased to play The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards because of incredible views. Perfect greens run fast at this Tom Fazio treasure, the highest ranked of the seven Cliffs courses. At the same time, Golf Digest’s ranked it #18 in South Carolina, but #4 of non-Coastal courses in the state, befitting an elite championship course. Then again, it is an everyday course that does not mercifully punish the golfer at every turn, instead giving one an opportunity to truly enjoy the round. The 20,000 square foot clubhouse is dramatic. Equally important is the 10,000 square foot Wellness Center along with an impressive equestrian center.
