Giants Ridge began as a ski hill. Owned since 1984 by the state economic development agency, it expanded to include a hotel and two golf courses. Although, it continues to lose money, Legend Giants Ridge is well maintained and provides an excellent golf experience for the money.
Legend Giants Ridge is 45 mins south of Ely, the entrance to the one million acre boundary waters in northern Minnesota. If you have another day to spare, the canoeing is awesome.
Legend Giants Ridge – Golf Course
The Legend Giants Ridge is magnificent high-end public course. Hence, the $62 to $90 rates (depending on season) rates are a great value. Despite the rain, our enthusiasm was high.

Hole #3 is a signature Par 5 that is reachable at 501 yards. Consequently, launch an aggressive tee shot over the noteworthy “Giant” paw footprint bunker. On the other hand, plenty of room remains right for the three shot alternative.
Then again large rocks and boulders provide visual texture to the tee shot on the Par4 Hole #8.
While a wide chasm is navigated on the tee shot, the carry is reasonable on the Par 4 Hole #10.
The medium length Par 3 Hole #11 is all carry and with no bailout option.
A chasm needs a medium length tee shot on the Par 4 Hole #12.
Dramatic fairway bunkering enhances the medium length Par 5 Hole #14. Large rocks provide visual texture.
There is occasionally some distance between holes. As a result, you take a splendid ride through the woods.
The Par 3 Hole #17 is The SIGNATURE HOLE at Legend Giants Ridge. In fact, it’s named to the Minnesota Dream 18 – eighteen of the best holes voted by the public. From the Gold tips it’s 226 yards and from the Blue tees it’s 216 yards. You carry water to an elevated green fronted by a small collection area. In a word, it’s dazzling.
By all means, stop and admire the Sabin lake view from the 17th green.
